I can't believe it's the last month of the summer! Our theme for this month is in honor of Sally Ride, who I met a few years ago at a workshop hosted by NASA. She was incredibly inspirational and there are so many other women out there who have done the impossible and stimulated a whole new way of viewing the world. So read a book about female pioneers and get inspired!
Well, I've been reading a lot. 'And If I Perish' followed the first nurses to follow the troops in mobile Army units, followed by a biography of the first (and only) woman to receive the Medal of Honor and was the first woman physician hired by the U.S. Army as an assistant contract surgeon. Now, I'm looking at the first woman doctor actually commissioned by the military. It's a great theme, even though Mary Edwards Walker took me to the (gasp!) Civil War.
